The world as we know it may be rapidly changing. The reality of the damage some of the lifestyles people are currently living is coming to light and the latter is leading even the commercial wing of the world to embrace changes in their operating environment.
Such has been the case with the global retail brand: Target.
Target is currently implementing a new vegan and cruelty-free labelling system whereby specific labels are placed on different isles of the chain stores. The above has come to be enforced by the chain after the issue of their Corporate Responsibility document which stipulates that the firm will include planet-positive commitment. This will be rolled out in the coming years and will see the firm implement a raft of measures, some of which are on climate change and others on the aforementioned vegan labelling.
In their statement, Target stated that ‘…we believe it is important to offer products that help our guests support their health and well-being.’ This speaks to the chain store’s need to ensure that their clients are best informed regarding the products they are purchasing so as to ensure that their decision making is efficient. The understanding that customers need more information will see Target ensure that these customers can make more ethical purchases from the store thus also ensuring that the second responsibility, climate change, can also be handled endogenously.
With regards to the labels, the isles will have different colour labels. Their food and other beverages section will receive labels such as Plant-Based, Fair Trade Vegan, Non-GMO, and Organic, while beauty products will also be categorized into Cruelty-Free, Biodegradable, Plant-Based, Non-GMO, and Vegan, Organic and Non-Toxic. The above categories will be used on different other products and will carry the message to clients regarding the different types of products which they’ll be purchasing.
In addition to the above, the company’s climate change policy will see them improve their energy efficiency through a drive towards renewable energy as well as reduce their carbon emission so as to ensure they can achieve a green economy. Furthermore, they will also seek to cut on deforestation rates through the sourcing of palm oil in a more efficient manner, saving lives of rainforest animals whose habitat have been destroyed as a result of deforestation.
All the above will definitely have a positive impact on the environment and Target pioneering them seems to be a great start towards corporate America taking a stance on the environment.
